Post Office Protocol (POP) is an Internet standard protocol used to retrieve e–mail from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection. Version 3 (POP3) was the last POP standard in common use; it was made largely obsolete by the more advanced IMAP. In POP3, e–mails are downloaded from the server's inbox to your computer. This means you can read your e–mails when you're not connected to the server.
